How to be a model

1. Go to a studio, which is likely to be Extremely White.

2. Have your hair and makeup done by Yaz. (Yaz is possibly the most beautiful person I have ever seen, but you’ll just have to imagine that because I didn’t take a photo of her.)
3. Wear the t-shirt assigned to you by Steph, directing the shoot, on the left, and then stand in the white place and smile at Jody, the photographer, on the right. It wasn’t too difficult – really, girls, I think you can see why – but I did misunderstand the instruction ‘pull the bottom down’, thinking I needed to realign my backside rather than just tug down the hem of the t-shirt so that the logo could be seen. I wonder if Kate Moss ever does that.

4. Be interviewed and filmed by hilarious Cancer Research UK double-act Jess (left) and Lynne, who are making a behind-the-scenes-at-the-photoshoot film.

5. During the course of the afternoon, wear a Race for Life T-shirt, a Celebrity Designed T-shirt and a sponsor T-shirt. Trickier than you’d think when you’re trying to change without mussing your make-up. Also, model these in conjunction with a visor, a baseball cap, a sparkly cowboy hat and a lei. (I managed to get away without wearing the pink fluffy bunny ears or the deely boppers.)
6. Between being photographed, eat cupcakes made by Jess and other yummy things provided by the force of organisation and good humour that is Polly. I don’t think Kate Moss does that part.
7. And – best of all – do it all with these fabulous women.
You’ll recognise the one on the left, then there’s Fiona, Varsha and Denise. I also met Taegan, who is 8 and a complete star, but had left by the time we took this photo. I’ve cropped the photo because the T-shirt designs won’t be launched until January, when you’ll be able to see us all in all our glory on the Race for Life website.
The whole thing was great fun, and the T-shirts are fantastic. You’ll have to wait to see them, but you can register for Race for Life 2010 now, or you can drop me an email to let me know you’d like to take part with the Bah! team and I’ll get us all organised. Last year Race for Life raised over 44 million pounds for cancer research. Let’s make next year even better.
