Around 15 months out from my breast cancer surgery I started taking Pilates classes with my friend, Diane Mulholland. I had no idea how much cancer treatment had weakened and stiffened my body until I had my first session and could barely do anything without having cramp and pain. I felt as though I would never be fit again.
After 6 sessions with Diane, and the exercises she taught me to do on my own, I was stronger and straighter, and my body was starting to feel like my friend again. We were so excited about the difference Pilates made, and the potential that it has to help make cancer treatment more bearable, that together we’ve come up with another Bah! Excellent Idea:
The Bah! Pilates program offers courses of 6 free private Pilates sessions with Diane, plus an exercise program to follow at home. The exercises are tailored to exactly meet your level of fitness and your goals, and can be very gentle if you’re feeling fragile, or more demanding when you’re ready to build stamina and get back to your normal everyday activities.
Sessions will take place at Diane’s home in Parson’s Green, on either a Monday or Tuesday afternoon.
If you are dancing with cancer and you think Pilates could help improve your steps, then here’s what you need to do…
- Download the Bah! Pilates questionnaire and fill it in
- Email it back to Diane
- We’ll be in touch as soon as possible to let you know if we have an available space in the program.
If you want to read more about Pilates, including the benefits it can have for people recovering from surgery or other cancer treatments, you can visit Diane’s website.
If you know someone who is dancing right now, and you think they’d be interested in taking part in Bah! Pilates, please let them know – we’d love to hear from them.
