41 Flash: the results

In celebration of my birthday, I gave you 41 words (one of which was ‘thrive’) and asked you to do something wonderful with them. Many of you did. I couldn’t pick a winner, so I picked three.

Francesca wins for her beautiful spirit:

I will live, laugh and love. The alien will be destroyed. The rogue cells will be cut out, starved, zapped into oblivion. I have a future and it will be fun. It will be me, not the tumour that will thrive.
Melanie wins for birthday synchronicity, and communicating the sheer annoyance of little brothers so brilliantly:
I share my birthday with my brother
He arrived three weeks early
During MY 3rd birthday party
I am dancing with cancer, but thriving
And now I find, I also share my birthday with you
I’ll be 39 on 1st July!
And Rebecca wins for – well, just for writing something so breathtakingly lovely.
“How can it be everlasting?” they whisper in awe.
Sometimes hiding,
only to resurface; a reaction
to a flicker of sunlight;
the sound of a baby’s cry;
a crash of a wave or glimpse of a thriving blossom.
Mankind’s constant: hope.
Copies of ‘Thrive’ will be heading to the winners just as soon as I have them!
