Fashion Targets Breast Cancer

I’ve watched the annual Fashion Targets Breast Cancer campaign with interest over the years, and have been happy to see it develop from a ’see me wearing a baggy t-shirt with a bullseye on it because I care’ to something much more, well, fashionable.

It’s a simple idea: designers and brands working with Fashion Targets Breast Cancer make a donation to Breakthrough Breast Cancer every time an item from their FTBC range sells. Some of the range is based on the target logo, some of it isn’t.

You can see the full range here, but I could, for example, buy this dress from Coast

a rather lovely satchel from M&S,  this fabulously camp teapot, and this dress from Laura Ashley, in case I spilled tea on the red one….

…and I would be Doing Good as well as Looking Fab. (I’m not entirely convinced that I could carry the red dress off, and obviously that handbag doesn’t Go, but you catch my drift.)

You can check out the Fashion Targets Breast cancer campaign here. Although it’s UK based, all of the products are available online, so if you live over the water you’ll need to check overseas shipping policies.

Happy shopping!

(And if you’re not much of a shopper, there are other ways you can help.)

The teapot is now throwing its bunting on the floor and stamping. You cruel wordsmith!

  2. Stephanie says:

What? What did I say to upset the teapot?!

I must admit I’m puzzled by the red dress – I couldn’t wear strapless dresses before I had one of my boobs cut off (they would fall off all the time), now it is literally impossible. Are these more clothes for people who have got two breasts to show them off to demonstrate how sympathetic they are? Like the Moonwalk thing, I find that somewhat tactless.

You said it was camp. It can’t help standing with one arm on its hip and the other in the air. Its just thrown its lid on the floor.

Oh, Rachel, I’d never considered that, and I’m fairly sure the FTBC people hadn’t either – I think the idea is to have a range of products and as one-shoulder dresses are fashionable at the moment I suppose it’s natural to include one. I’ll raise this with them – although I suspect that it’s really me who should have thought a bit harder before including. Sorry. x

No, I’m not upset with you Stephanie! But I am fed up with how often I search for post-mastectomy bras and get loads of hits for clothes (all PINK grrrrr) with slogans on them about breast cancer but which I can’t actually actually wear.

The Moonwalk is the same – you HAVE to wear ONLY a bra (which I think they provide and which does not seem to include a post-mastectomy option) which I feel excludes a lot of people who have had breast cancer. I find it patronising. I am not prissy about exposing my body to people, but I am not keen on exposing my scar.

  7. Hi Rachel,

Breakthrough Breast Cancer would like to thank you for your post and apologise for any offence caused by the strapless red dress.

Fashion Targets Breast Cancer (FTBC) has raised £12m for our lifesaving research and we work with a number of British fashion brands who all generously donate products to raise money for us.

The red dress carries a £45 donation to us and will raise approximately £7,000 for Breakthrough, and Coast alone (who sell the dress) have raised over £75,000 in 3 years. The vital funds we receive from FTBC products bring us a step closer towards our vision of a future free from the fear of breast cancer.

Even though this one-shoulder red dress may not be suitable to someone who has had a mastectomy, we can assure you that there are 2 more dresses in the collection this year and both can be worn with a bra and are suitable for women who have undergone treatment.

If you would like to see our other range of FTBC products which may be more suitable, please visit the FTBC shop via this link:

Again, we are very sorry if this has caused any offence but please feel free to get in touch with us should you have any more queries or concerns.

    Many thanks and best wishes,

The Supporter Care Team at Breakthrough
