Cancer Free Friday: jag

I hadn’t come across the word ‘jag’ until I started knitting, and heard other knitters describe themselves as being on ‘a sock jag’ or ‘a hat jag’. I looked it up and discovered it means a bout, or a spree. I always thought it was kind of odd: much as I enjoy knitting, say, a pair of socks, I want the next thing on my needles to be Not Socks, just for the variety.

Until I finished Icicles… and immediately cast on Citron.

(Pattern here. Yarn is a laceweight linen/cotton mix that I got from K1 in Edinburgh a couple of years ago, and it’s gorgeously slubby.)

That finished, Wingspan was the next thing.

(Pattern here. Yarn from The Natural Dye Studio, but sadly being discontinued – it’s yummy.)

And on the needles now… the whimsically named Lady Of The Blue Forest, although I’m knitting mine in purple.

(Purple camel, in fact. Yes, you can make yarn from camels. Who knew? Pattern is here. I think it will be pretty but I’m afraid it will be small.)

So. A jag. There is hope for me, though, because I’m also knitting these.

Although whether it’s the start of a sock jag, or an interruption to the shawl jag, I’m not sure. I’ll let you know.

(If you think I’m doing an awful lot of knitting, even for me, you’re right: I’ve been knitting my way through long train journeys, and toothache, and sleepless nights, and waiting for the new book to be ready to start going onto the page. Added up, that’s a lot of knitting time.)

I’m so impressed and in awe of your knitting skills – your creations are amazing. I am having a scarf jag as that’s about the extent of my knitting skills. I can cast on, cast off and knit but no purl! There is a picture of my knitting on my re-ravelling Facebook page – new cover picture for my timeline.

But if my knitting isn’t that impressive by your standards you will like the cause – it will be 10 years in September since my mum started her “dance”. She is all clear and thriving too, planning a coffee morning to celebrate, raise awareness and funds.
Hope you have lovely weekend :-)
