I was at the hospital promptly at 9am for my echocardiogram, and called at 9.25 or so by a technician who was clearly fairly new to the role, but none the worse for that. (He’s the first person who’s ever asked me whether I would be more comfortable with a female technician, and while he did the scan we talked about philosophy and change and happiness and how to get the most from life. And ejection fractions, obviously.)
After 45 minutes or so and another technician checking, the result was in.
Me (wiping gel off): so, what’s my ejection fraction?
Technician: We’re not really supposed to….
Me (with big smile) OK!
Technician: I’ve got a reading of 64%.
Me: Excellent! The oncologist said she’d have the results in 48 hours.
Technician: Ten minutes.
Me: Thank you.
So. I came home and called the Trevor Howell Unit and told them the result, and they booked me in for herceptin on Friday. The dance with cancer staggers on once more.
Later, I opened the post, and I found this, from Emily.
Inside it says, ‘I thought this was a sunny card and I wanted to send you some sunny thoughts.’
So, not only do I have a healthy heart, but I also have a happy heart.

Oh, what good news. I read this post AFTER the one about that sodding dentist … How dare she be so patronising as to tell you to be brave. Please tell me you're going to go back and deck her.
